The last coupe version of the Accord has ceased production a few years back. This is because in 2012 there has been a new version of the car and until now there just wasn’t a coupe available. Well, not anymore because Honda has just announced their new 2016 Honda Accord Coupe. This car is going to be based on the ongoing generation of the Accord rather than based on the old coupe and it is also going to feature a brand new selection of engines.
PRICE and RELEASE DATE
So far there aren’t too many details released about this new model but we can expect it to fit the 20 to 24.000 dollars price bracket for the base model. This means it will actually be a little cheaper than the older model. The car is also supposed to come with a new selection of engines that will be based on that of the current Accord and also a brand new one that hasn’t been released just yet. This is possible because it will be released on the market at the end of 2015 or at the start of 2016, so there is still quite a bit of time for research and development.
2016 Honda Accord Coupe design
Its design will be quite striking, being based on a car that already looks quite good. The coupe will be wider, lower and a bit longer than the ongoing sedan which means it will be a much sportier car. The roof will be quite low and there will be no center post to take the attention from that roof line. The front of the car on the other hand will be quite similar to that of the sedan. The only change will be a different bumper with a small aero kit on it in order to look more aggressive. The back on the other hand will be quite a bit more different with a dual exhaust system, a small spoiler and tail lights with integrated LEDs.
2016 Honda Accord Coupe engine
Engine wise, we are pretty sure that the 2016 Honda Accord Coupe is going to receive the 3.5 liter V6 from the current sedan. This is going to be tweaked for more top end power, at 280 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. The base version on the other hand might ditch the standard 2.4 liter engine in the favor of a smaller 1.6 liter turbo with roughly the same power but better fuel consumption and also better performance thanks to higher torque.
The transmission will most likely be a 6 speed automatic on all models with a front wheel drive system and a limited slip differential as standard.
Honda Accord Coupe interior
Inside the new Accord Coupe there will be quite a bit of equipment even in the standard trim. All of the models will come with an 8 inch screen for the rear view camera that also acts as a satellite navigation system on the more expensive models. Besides this, the car will have a pretty similar interior to the sedan.
